It all begins with a daily journey through an old maritime forest to the beach on Cumberland Island. Something glistens, uncovered by the tide, awaiting to be transformed into timeless jewelry. This is the routine and living legacy of jewelry designer Janet “Gogo” Ferguson. She grew up on Cumberland, the southernmost barrier island in Georgia. It has been home to the Carnegie family for 7 generations.
Island matriarchs Lucy Carnegie and granddaughter Lucy Ferguson instilled their wisdom and passion for the natural beauty of the island in generations to follow. Growing up on Cumberland has gifted Gogo the insatiable sense of wonder and respect for her surroundings; a legacy that is a constant in her transformations of the natural world into her designs.
Using the Lost Wax Casting technique, every intricate detail of the natural form is retained. Holding a piece of Gogo Jewelry in your hands feels like you are truly intertwined with the spirit of the plant or creature that inspired it
“Given the current fragility of our natural surroundings, it is ever so important to recognize this beauty and become accountable for its protection. Natures perfection that moves us from within may soon be gone, so let us all pay tribute to our environs and the inspiration that we gain from them”
